Mr. Michael Flint
Michael Flint graduated from the University of Auckland Medical School in 1993. After finishing his NZ orthopaedic surgical training and obtaining his FRACS (ortho) in 2002 he travelled to Canada where he underwent further subspecialty training in adult joint reconstruction under world renowned surgeon Dr Allan Gross, and then completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at Mt Sinai and Princess Margaret Hospitals in Toronto under Professors Bob Bell and Jay Wunder.
Returning to New Zealand in 2005 Michael was appointed as a consultant surgeon at Middlemore Hospital. He has a leading role in the management of musculoskeletal tumours helping run the NZ Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma service. He is also active in the development of new techniques in hip and knee joint replacement and provides expertise in the management of acute orthopaedic trauma.
As well as teaching medical students and junior staff Michael takes an active role in the training of orthopaedic surgeons in NZ. He has been invited to lecture at national meetings as well as promoting research on his subspecialty fields of joint replacement and tumour surgery.
His private practice encompasses hip and knee joint replacement with particular emphasis on newer techniques and computer assisted surgery. He is also skilled in arthroscopic surgical management of knee and shoulder problems.
